Runs in your browser. Your photo is not uploaded.

Rate my photo here and you get a score for the picture, not for you. Upload or take one photo, and the page checks lighting, sharpness, head angle, how much of the frame your face fills and whether it sits near the center. Each check gets a score, a plain reading and a retake tip, and the five combine into a single photo quality score out of 100. It runs in your browser, so the image is not uploaded, and it never gives a looks score.

What rate my photo checks

A photo can be unfair to the person in it. A dim room hides detail, a close lens bends the nose, and a tilted head moves the eyes out of line. The checks target those problems:

  • Lighting: the average brightness of the image, from too dark to washed out.
  • Sharpness: how much fine detail survives, which drops with blur, a smudged lens or a heavy filter.
  • Head angle: how far the head is turned, nodded or tilted from straight on.
  • Face size: the share of the frame the face fills.
  • Centering: how far the middle of the face sits from the middle of the picture.

Rate my photo ignores expression, hair, clothes and background. It scores only what a camera does to a face.

How rate my photo adds up the score

Rate my photo scores each check from 0 to 100, then weighs them: lighting 25%, sharpness 25%, head angle 20%, face size 15% and centering 15%. Lighting is full marks in a mid brightness band and falls toward either end. Sharpness uses a standard blur measure on a downsized copy of the picture. Head angle compares the turn, nod and tilt against limits of about 10, 12 and 5 degrees. Face size is best when the face fills a quarter to three fifths of the frame.

The total is a rounded weighted average, and a verdict from Great photo down to Retake follows from it. If any single check scores low, the verdict will not read as Great even when the total is high, because one real flaw can undermine the picture.

Reading your rate my photo scores

Rate my photo shows, under each bar, the numbers behind it, such as the brightness value or the degrees of head turn, so you can see why a score moved. A score of 80 or more is marked good, 55 to 79 fair and below that needs a fix. The retake note under each bar says what to change. Fix the lowest score first, since it usually costs the most points.

If the page cannot find exactly one face, it stops and explains why, because the angle, size and centering checks all depend on locating a single face.

Quick fixes when rate my photo scores low

  • Dark: face a window and put the light in front, not behind you.
  • Blurry: wipe the lens, brace the phone or use a timer so the shutter does not shake it.
  • Turned or tilted: look into the lens with the camera at eye height.
  • Face too small: step closer or crop the picture to the head and shoulders.
  • Off-center: move the camera, not just your chin, until the face is in the middle.

For a full setup you can repeat, the how to take a photo for a PSL rating guide goes through distance, height and lens.

A photo score is not a rating of your face

This page asks whether the picture is fair to whoever appears in it. It does not ask whether you are attractive, and it will not turn a clear photo into a verdict about your features. The attractiveness test is the place for that kind of reading, and it also checks photo quality before it scores anything. A good photo score only means the picture will not get in the way.

If your score comes out at 70 or higher, the same photo is ready for a PSL rating. If you are choosing a profile picture, a clean score is a safe floor, though composition and expression still matter.

What rate my photo keeps

Rate my photo runs the face detector and every score in your browser, on your device. The picture is not sent to a server, stored or shared, and no account is needed. The face model is downloaded the first time you use the page, which can take a few seconds.

Rate my photo FAQ

Does rate my photo judge how I look?

No. It only measures lighting, sharpness, angle, face size and centering of the picture.

Is my photo uploaded when I rate my photo?

No. Detection and scoring run in your browser, and the image stays on your device.

What is a good photo quality score?

A score of 80 or higher with no weak check is a clean photo. Between 55 and 79 is usable with small fixes.

Why does rate my photo give low sharpness on a new phone?

Beauty filters, zoom, digital smoothing and a smudged lens all reduce fine detail. Turn them off and retake.

Can I rate a group photo?

Not here. The page needs exactly one face, so crop to yourself first.

How is this different from an attractiveness score?

This scores the photo. An attractiveness test scores features and proportions, and needs a good photo first.
